IT'S BEEN SAID that a man is not actually born when he comes out of the female body, since he doesn't know then that he is born. He is born actually when he gets the knowledge of birth. So it is when a revelation of great magnitude bursts upon a person's consciousness with the power to change one's trajectory in life. Anything that fundamentally alters the way we regard ourselves or the world around us is a birth or rebirth of some type. If we accept that life is continuation, that nothing springs from a vacuum, and that the present develops inexorably from the past, then there are no experiences or events that are without their cause or origin. Therefore, any experience that is mysterious or unfathomable must necessarily lead us down the path of self-inquiry, with the promise of bringing us closer to grasping the true nature of our reality.
