This book is based on the computer game Adventure A: Planet of Death, an extremely popular title published by Artic during the early days of home computing.
Though subsequent books in this series have more detailed plots, battles with enemies, tricky puzzles to solve and other such refinements, Adventure A is important because this is where it all started; an entire genre of computer gaming can be traced back to Artic's efforts, alongside a few other highly influential titles.
