At midnight on January 13, 1838, Joseph Smith rode out of Kirtland, Ohio, pursued by armed men. The horse the Prophet rode was his favorite--a twelve-year old black stallion called Old Charlie. Neither Joseph nor Charlie would ever see Kirtland again.
