This book is a structured, comprehensive analysis and documentation of Natural Textile Dyes in Assam. The content is mainly focused on preserving the oral traditions, living culture, and existing available documented information, and is targeted to compile an informative catalogue of natural textile dyes in Assam. Preliminary discussions comprise information on the state of Assam, Textiles, and Natural Indigenous Dyes. The aims, objectives, and significance of the background research work on natural textile dyes in Assam, as well as the historical backgrounds of dyeing textiles with natural dyes, are also included. The main contents of the inner chapters reflect a structured documentation of various natural dyes used in the state of Assam. The procedures of extracting the dyes, as practiced by different indigenous communities, and how textiles are dyed with such natural dyes, are also described. The case studies conducted in Shyamgaon, a village in Titabor, Jorhat district of Assam and in Haropara village near Vijayanagar in the Kamrup district, with complete step-by-step documentation on organised practice of nature textile dyeing have been included as part of the book. An illustrated chapter on the experimentations made by the author herself, with a few natural dyes available locally in Assam is also included.
