"The Hippogriff Handbook" helps high school and college teachers instruct students in the four kinds of sentences: simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex. The book introduces basic sentence structure with engaging examples and characters that include hippogriffs, peasants, maidens, kings, and ineffective knights. The 46-page book uses explanations, examples, and exercises that guide students through all aspects of sentence structure. There are two types of exercises: developing skills exercises that explain basic principles and developing mastery exercises that help students learn how style affects content. Teacher answer sheets are provided for all the exercises.
Author Biography
Laura C. Stevenson is a scholar, a writer for young adults, and a writer for adults. A musician who went deaf in her thirties, she has written several books that take up the problem of disability, without compromising literary interest or excellence.
