PEER describes the Prison Experiment for Education and Rehabilitation. PEER is a for-prisoners, by-prisoners project that advances education and rehabilitative programming in prisons. While critics claim that prisoners are too broken to fix one another, PEER indicates otherwise through three distinct self-help and community service options for incarcerated readers.1. Completing Peer Courses2. Designing Peer Courses3. Teaching Peer CoursesBy participating in these options, an incarcerated person can advance in programming and help others to do likewise. This is important because paroles are often denied to "lack of programming." And while all of the PEER courses are available for free, 24/7, traditional programming is often unavailable. PEER is intended to ensure that useful programming is available to all incarcerated people, especially those who need immediate assistance for self-betterment and parole preparation.
