Fortunately, football pundits and managers as well as players and referees continue to provide some hilarious stories, lines and gaffes - long may they go on - and the refereeing community sporadically adds to its own store of jokes. Author Biography
Brian Palmer was a football referee at local and regional level for some 20 years after playing enthusiastically in his youth. He wrote extensively about refereeing in the national magazine Football Referee, and in the Reading Referee, particularly during his 18 years as editor. In 1999 he created the Reading Referees' Association website www.readingrefs.org.uk Brian has always been able to see the funny side of football and of refereeing in particular. Over the years he has collected and invented many fine examples of the comic, which he now hopes to share with those who are in some way involved with the noble game.
