According to Ancient Chinese thought and medicine, there is no separation between body, spirit and emotions. This book, based on NEI JING SU WEN, Chapter 39, and NEI JING LING SHU, Chapters 8 and 22, proposes regarding the emotions as the middle level of the Three Levels of Man, organized according to the Trinity of Powers (SAN CAI 三才) - Heaven, Man and Earth.. -Man is expressed on the subtle level of Heaven (Upper Level) as Five Roots of SHEN (BEN SHEN 本神): SHEN 神, HUN 魂, YI 意, PO 魄, ZHI 志. Throughout an individual's existence, BEN SHEN 本神 organize the functioning of body and mind, according to the possibilities presented by heredity.-Man at the level of Man (Middle Level) links subtle universal influences (Heaven) with 'substantial forms' (Earth) by means of the five emotions, which express and regulate the individual. -Man at the level of Earth (Lower Level) is expressed by means of the five ZANG 臟 Heart, Liver, Spleen, Lung and Kidney, which produce body tissues and the five emotions, with the help of QI 氣, Blood, the five flavors and body liquids Imbalance in BEN SHEN 本神, especially when it occurs during fetal development and birth, generates long-lasting harmful emotions and causes disease.
