by John S. C. Abbott (Author)
"David Crockett certainly was not a model man. But he was a representative man. He was conspicuously one of a very numerous class, still existing, and which has heretofore exerted a very powerful influence over this republic. As such, his wild and wondrous life is worthy of the study of every patriot." --John S.C. Abbott, Preface, 1874
American historian John S.C. Abbott wrote David Crockett: His Life and Adventures (1874) as part of his American Pioneers and Patriots series. David Crockett (1786-1836) was an American folk hero, frontiersman, and Congressman representing Tennessee. Abbott describes Crockett's life from childhood to marriage, from fighting Indians to his adventures on the prairie, and to his disappointing experience as a politician. More than one hundred fifty years after its publication, this is still a very readable and fascinating book.
