Columbus has been uniquely positioned to take advantage of booming industry and trade throughout its history. Established in 1828 on the fall line of the Chattahoochee River, where the Piedmont Plateau meets the Coastal Plain, Columbus owes much of its success to the river; yet, there is much more to the city and its identity.
