What does it mean to be a broke witch living in America? Enter Fern, an actually broke witch living in New Jersey. Fern's insecurity plagues her identity: is she a good witch or a bad witch? Living as unemployed, on social assistance, and the only witch in proximity within the community, Fern attempts to cope with the recent loss of her mother. She soon befriends a little girl, Rose, who pries and prods at Fern's sensitive side. For the moment, things stay stable, until things get worse. After a tragic accident, Fern feels the heat of the community's torch. A witch is always the first suspect after all, right? Enter her sister, Mabel, a wife, mother, and a witch led astray by wealth. Fern is unsure if she can be trusted, but the only thing missing from her cauldron's welter is money.
