Bees are beneficial insects that keep the world buzzing with life. Albert Einstein once warned that if bees disappear from earth, humankind would have no more than four years to live. Bees are important because they pollinate flowering plants and crops. Many bees perform a dance to communicate the direction and distance of food sources from the hive. A backyard gardener can do a lot to prevent worldwide honeybee die-off. For the most part, a bee garden doesn't attract so many bees that a gardener has to worry about being stung or attracting a host of bees. However, it's smart to place some plants for bees on the outer fringes of the yard or garden as opposed to next to the house or near walkways. In addition to bees, other beneficial insects include dragonflies, ladybugs, spiders and praying mantises.
