Author Biography

Doris Fisher was born in Dayton, Ohio. A mother and former kindergarten teacher, she fell in love with the beautiful illustrations and educational benefits of picture books. Referring to children's books as mini masterpieces, Fisher delights in using word play, silly rhymes, and fun pictures to create stories that are interactive and engaging for young readers. Fisher used her knowledge of child development and children's literature to begin writing her own picture books and published her first story about baby animals soon after retiring from teaching. One of her favorite phrases is read it again! and hopes that her books will make children excited about learning. A lover of puzzles and games, Fisher has also lent her talents to the magazines Highlights for Children, Babybug, Boy's Quest, and Hopscotch for Girls. Fisher is member of both the national and Houston chapters of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. She has received the Teacher's Choice Award from Learning magazine and first place at the 2012 Abilene Writers Guild Annual Contest. She received her BS in elementary education from University of Tulsa. She lives in Kingwood, Texas, with her husband and her dog and frequently visits her two grown children.
