Affective maturity is a process of directing, structuring, and restructuring the human heart as it bends towards that innate need for love. Many experiences can disaffect the heart and block the process of its growth towards this maturity. Celibacy is a gift and a charism which priests of the Catholic Church in the Latin rite enjoy, by God's Grace. The same applies to the religious.
