Product Description

by Kristjan Cernic (Author), Avi Goren-Bar (Author)

Internationally-renowned Expressive Arts Therapist and Jungian Coach, Dr Avi Goren-Bar, is one of the leading art therapists in the world. This unique book presents the lessons, strategies and anecdotes from his decades of professional experience, allowing aspiring or active therapists and coaches, as well as interested doctors, nurses, lay readers or even patients, to learn about Expressive Arts Therapy. This book, volume 1 of 2, is both scholarly and accessible, as told in the form of a dialogue between Dr Goren-Bar and one of his pupils. Through numerous stories and specific examples, Dr Goren-Bar covers much of the material that is taught in his international workshops and seminars, making this book ideal for all interested in the mind, the arts, and the point where the two meet.

Author Biography

Dr. Avi Goren-Bar, who refused to restrict his intellectual talents and experience to the boundaries of a traditional verbal dyad therapy, integrated his creativity into an original interpretation of integrative psychodynamic Expressive Arts Therapy. He holds a BA and MA from the Jerusalem Hebrew University in Educational Psychology and Musicology. He continued his higher studies for a Clinical Psychology Doctorate with an expertise in Intermodal Expressive Arts Therapy, at Union University of Cincinnati, Ohio. Dr. Goren-Bar holds formal expert certificates in School Psychology and Clinical Psychology. At the same time, using movement therapy and body work, he was qualified as Gestalt therapist, and is a member of the European Gestalt Association, and a certified music and movement therapist. Upon graduating from the Jerusalem Jungian School, he went into six years of the Jungian Analytic process, and developed his unique program of Jungian Coaching, a program running both in Istanbul and Ljubljana. This program offers executives, coaches, managers and leaders new visions on organizational and personal growth techniques, to be applied in the high-tech and business worlds. Dream analysis and Jungian Sand Tray techniques are parts of his routine practice. Dr. Goren-Bar, known for "stepping out of the box" as a lecturer, is admired by his students, has had intensive academic career at several universities in Israel and, in the last six years, he has run his Clinical Expressive Arts Therapy two-year certificate program in Athens, Istanbul, Zagreb and Ljubljana. Dr. Goren-Bar lectures both in local and international conferences, adding always a unique kind of provocative look at the routine psychotherapeutic agenda.
