Since 2006, the national high school graduation rate has continued to increase, however, black students only graduated at 75% in 2015 as compared to 88% for whites. Black males in particular are under-represented in advanced placement (AP) classes and have lower standardized test scores. Author Biography
Gabrielle McGill Carpenter, M.ED. is a parent, former teacher, past Director of School Counseling, independent educational consultant, and current school administrator. She was the architect of Club 2012, Clubs 20xx and now Excellent Options Clubs. She currently serves as Chairperson of Excellent Options, Inc. She is committed to eliminating the achievement gap experienced by young men of color in the current educational system. Ms. Carpenter lives in the Washington D.C. metro area.
