Product Description

by Rosemary J. Erickson (Author)

This is not a smiley-face book. Rather, it provides a gritty coverage of four serial killer cases, for which Dr. Rosemary J. Erickson was an expert witness. Dr. Erickson is a forensic sociologist and expert witness. The first part of her book provides a behind- the-scenes look of how she became a female expert witness on violent crime, and the later part covers the violent criminal cases and her involvement in the aftermath. The aftermath occurs, when the civil suit is filed. That is when Dr. Erickson goes to work to determine if the place where the crime occurred has liability. The book also reveals the dysfunctional childhoods of the serial killers and their psychopathy, which led them to their crimes-- characteristics so similar to the mass shooters of today.

Author Biography

Rosemary J. Erickson, Ph.D. grew up on a farm in South Dakota and went on to become a nationally renowned expert witness on violent crime. She received a B.A. in psychology at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She later received her M.A. in Sociology at San Diego State University, and then her Ph.D. in Sociology: Justice at the American University in Washington, D. C. She has taught at the American University and San Diego State University. She has also consulted and trained corporations and government agencies worldwide in crime prevention and written other books on crime and its causes. Prairie Patriarch: A Farmer's Daughter Becomes an Expert Witness on Violent Crime was written by Dr. Erickson some years ago. It was only recently published to provide the backdrop for this book. Prairie Patriarch is about Dr. Erickson's "roots" and the part her father, mother, and rural upbringing brought about in developing her character, values, determination, and interest in researching and testifying about violent crime. Because this book is written by a sociologist, it is believed to be suitable as a supplementary text for the sociology, criminology, law enforcement, or law student interested in crime and the criminal justice system, and a behind-the-scenes look at the life of a female expert witness on violent crime.
