Author Biography
Shy is currently a Detective and has been serving within law enforcement for over five years. In the past, she has served as a Special Victims Unit Detective with the Camden County Police Department. In addition, Shy has been serving in the New Jersey Army National Guard since 2012, where she is currently an Officer Candidate. She is passionate about uplifting and empowering the urban community. Shy frames her community involvement around the concept of paying it forward. In Shy's debut children's book, Proud Black Girl, she empowers young girls to self-love, self-respect and self-enrichment. Shy is the Founder and President of the Annie Lee Jones Foundation, a foundation named after her late great-grandmother, Annie Lee Jones, based out of Plainfield, New Jersey. Shy established the foundation to enrich the lives of others and to help students achieve academic excellence while preparing them for college and the professional world. Before establishing the foundation, Shy served as the Chair of the Delta G.E.M.S. of Central Jersey Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., where she is a member. Delta G.E.M.S. is a mentoring program for high school teenagers that is designed to help young ladies excel academically and prepare for college. In addition, she conducted workshops to inner school students at the Boys & Girls Club of Plainfield, as a Workshop Leader and Site Facilitator of the Stand & Deliver Program. Currently, Shy is a Doctoral Student at Stockton University where she is studying Organizational Leadership. She has a B.A. in Justice Studies and a M.A. in Law & Governance both from Montclair State University where she was a three-year student-athlete on the Women's Basketball team.
