El presente texto tiene como propósito analizar la integración social indígena a la sociedad mexicana a partir de la observación etnográfica en barrios metropolitanos. Migrando desde el estado de Oaxaca, mixtecos y chocholtecos se han ubicado -contando ya cuatro décadas- en la colonia San Miguel Teotongo de la delegación Iztapalapa, co-construyéndola con vecinos mestizos. Desde esta compleja y multicultural periferia urbana han luchado contra las exclusiones colectivizándose en tanto que oaxaqueños y mixtecos o chocholtecos, reinventándose a partir de estrategias tanto políticas como económicas que trascienden el espacio local y amplían las fronteras étnicas.
