Author Biography
Patricia Smith is a certified Compassion Fatigue Specialist with 20 years of training experience. As founder of the Compassion Fatigue Awareness Project(c) (www.compassionfatigue.org), the outreach division of Healthy Caregiving, LLC, she writes, speaks and facilities workshops nationwide in service of those who care for others. With a background in journalism, her writing has appeared in numerous publications, including 20 years of freelance work for the San Jose Mercury News. She is the recipient of the "Excellence in Writing Award," presented by the National League of American Pen Women. She was awarded the 2006 Telly Award for her script "Invaders of the National Parks," a documentary on invasive species created for the National Parks Service. Her book To Weep for a Stranger: Compassion Fatigue in Caregiving, available on www.healthycaregiving.com or Amazon.com, was awarded the Pinnacle Book Award from the American Independent Booksellers Association. In 2012, she received a study grant from the Helen R.Whiteley Center, which is affiliated with the University of Washington, Seattle.
