Product Description

by Glen Lyndon Dodds (Author)

A Rhodesian Childhood Remembered is a lively account of the author's childhood in Rhodesia during the days of Ian Smith, the highly controversial figure who led the country as it faced an increasingly uncertain future in the 1960s and 1970s. Primarily, the text focuses on the author's life in Rhodesia's capital, Salisbury. Recollections of holidays in neighbouring Mozambique and South Africa are also vividly described, as are the country's landscape and history. The book will appeal to a wide range of readers who wish to know more about Rhodesia's remarkable story and the events that led to its demise.

Author Biography

Glen Lyndon Dodds lives in Sunderland in the North East of England but was born in Salisbury, Rhodesia (now Harare, Zimbabwe), where he spent most of his childhood. He has strong local roots, for his family has lived in Sunderland since at least the late 18th century. In addition to contributing articles to the 'Durham Archaeological Journal' and other academic publications, he has also written numerous articles for magazines (most notably 'The Northumbrian') and is also the author of several books, including 'Battles in Britain 1066-1746' and 'The Zulus and Matabele - Warrior Nations.' His leisure activities include playing the piano, cello and guitar. He also enjoys reading novels (favourite authors include A.J. Cronin and Louis L'Amour) and playing tennis and spending time in the countryside.
