Product Description

by Helaine Helmreich (Author), Herbert Kalter (Author)

161306 Reporting is the story of one man's triumph in the face of unimaginable adversity. Born in 1926 in the bustling city of Leipzig, Germany, Herbert Kalter spent his early years surrounded by a warm and loving family, within the comfortable and secure environment of a large and thriving Orthodox Jewish community. At the age of twelve, however, after Hitler came to power, Herbert was wrenched from all that he had previously known, and deported along with his family to Tarnov, Poland, where he would soon endure the terrible deprivations of the ghetto, the subsequent loss of his loved ones, and the horrific nightmare of five Nazi concentration camps. But unlike so many of his unfortunate brethren, Herbert Kalter survived the war and went on to build a new and productive life in America. Today he is a proud husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and a well-respected member of his community. His story takes us from the depths of man's evil and inhumanity, to the heights of human resilience, and teaches us how hope, quick thinking, and most of all, luck enabled one man to persevere and ultimately overcome one of history's darkest and most tragic episodes.
