### Author Biography

Patricia MacLachlan is the author of many novels for children, including the Newbery Medal-winning _Sarah, Plain and Tall_; _Baby_; _Waiting for the Magic_, and _The Truth of Me_. Among her picture books are _The Iridescence of Birds_, _Someone Like Me_, and _What You Know First_. She lives in Western Massachusetts.

Chris Sheban won a Gold Medal from the Society of Illustrators for his illustrations in _The Story of a Seagull and the Cat Who Taught Her to Fly_ by Luis Sepulveda. He previously collaborated with Patricia MacLachlan on _Someone Like Me_. He also illustrated _What a Cold Needs_ by Barbara Bottner, _Job Wanted_ by Teresa Bateman, and _Three Squeezes_ by Jason Pratt. He lives in Northbrook, Illinois.
