One morning Rafe wakes up to discover his bedroom is floating in a vast sea of water. Alone with only his dog for company, Rafe adapts to this strange new world by fishing cans of food out of the water and keeping watch. Boxes float by, as does a woman, playing her cello. Then, one day, Rafe fishes out a young girl, who joins him in his room -- they don't speak the same language, but they will face this uncertain future together.

### Author Biography

**CARY FAGAN**'s numerous kids' books include _The Collected Works of Gretchen Oyster_, which was a JLG selection, and the Kaspar Snit novels, the Wolfie & Fly chapter books, and the picture books _Little Blue Chair_, _What Are You Doing, Benny?_, and _King Mouse_, which was shortlisted for the Governor General's Award, and _Bear Wants to Sing_ (Fall 2021). _Mr. Zinger's Hat_, another of his picture books, was awarded the Marilyn Baillie Picture Book Award and the IODE Jean Throop Award. He has also won the Vicky Metcalf Award for Literature for Young People for his body of work. Cary was born and raised in Toronto, where he continues to live with his family.

**JON McNAUGHT** draws comics, and works as an illustrator, printmaker and lecturer. His clients include Penguin Random House, Faber, _New York Times_, _Wall Street Journal_, _The New Yorker,_ Walker Books, Picador and the BBC. He is also a regular cover artist for the _London Review of Books_. He is the author of _Kingdom_, _Birchfield Close_, _Pebble Island_ and _Dockwood_, which was the winner of the Angoulême Prix Révélation award in 2012. He lives in London, UK.
