### Author Biography

**Renée Watson** is a _New York Times_ bestselling author. Her novel, _Piecing Me Together,_ received a Newbery Honor and Coretta Scott King Award. Her books include _Ways to Make Sunshine_, _Some Places More Than Others_, _This Side of Home_, _What Momma Left Me_, _Betty Before X_, cowritten with Ilyasah Shabazz, and _Watch Us Rise_, cowritten with Ellen Hagan, as well as two acclaimed picture books: _A Place Where Hurricanes Happen_ and _Harlem's Little Blackbird_, which was nominated for an NAACP Image Award. Renée grew up in Portland, Oregon, and splits her time between Portland and New York City.

**Ellen Hagan** is a writer, performer, and educator. Her poetry collections include _Hemisphere_ and _Crowned_. Her work can be found in _ESPN Magazine_, _She Walks in Beauty_, and _Southern Sin_. Ellen is the Director of the Poetry & Theatre Departments at the DreamYard Project and directs their International Poetry Exchange Program with Japan, South Korea and the Philippines. She co-leads the Alice Hoffman Young Writer's Retreat at Adelphi University. She lives in New York and Kentucky.
