### Author Biography

**Tressie McMillan Cottom** is an associate professor of sociology at Virginia Commonwealth University and the author of _Lower Ed_. Her work has been featured by _The Daily Show_, the _New York Times_, the _Washington Post_, PBS, NPR, _Fresh Air_, and _The Atlantic_, among others. In 2020, McMillan Cottom was awarded a MacArthur Fellowship. She lives in Richmond, Virginia.
