### Author Biography

**Robert D. Kaplan**, the Robert Strausz-Hupé Chair in Geopolitics at the Foreign Policy Research Institute, was twice named one of the world's "Top 100 Global Thinkers" by _Foreign Policy_. A reporter with decades of experience writing for _The Atlantic_, he has written twenty-one books, including _Adriatic_; _The Good American_; _The Revenge of Geography_; _Asia's Cauldron_; _Monsoon_; _The Coming Anarchy_; and _Balkan Ghosts_. He has served on the Pentagon's Defense Policy Board and the U.S. Navy's Executive Panel.
