### Author Biography

**Simon Stephens** began his theatrical career in the literary department of the Royal Court Theatre, where he ran its Young Writers' Programme. His plays for theatre include _Bluebird_ (Royal Court Theatre); _Herons_ (Royal Court Theatre, 2001); _Port_ (Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester, 2002); _One Minute_ (Crucible Theatre, Sheffield, 2003 and Bush Theatre, London, 2004); _Christmas_ (Bush Theatre, 2004); _Country Music_ (Royal Court Theatre Upstairs, 2004); _On the Shore of the Wide World_ (Royal Exchange Theatre and National Theatre, London, 2005); _Motortown_ (Royal Court Theatre Downstairs, 2006); _Pornography_ (Deutsches Schauspielhaus, Hanover, 2007; Edinburgh Festival/Birmingham Rep, 2008 and Tricycle Theatre, London, 2009); _Harper Regan_ (National Theatre, 2008); _Sea Wall_ (Bush Theatre, 2008/Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh, 2009); _Heaven_ (Traverse Theatre, 2009); _Punk Rock_ (Lyric Hammersmith, London, and Royal Exchange Theatre, 2009); _The Trial of Ubu_ (Essen Schauspielhaus/Toneelgroep Amsterdam, 2010); _Wastwater_ (Royal Court Theatre Downstairs, 2011); _Morning_ (Lyric Hammersmith, 2012); an adaptation of _The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time_(National Theatre, 2012); _Blindsided_ (Royal Exchange, 2014); and _Birdland_ (Royal Court, 2014). Awards include the Pearson Award for Best New Play, 2001, for _Port_; Olivier Award for Best New Play for _On the Shore of the Wide World_, 2005. His adaptation of _Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time_ won the 2015 Tony Award for Best Play.
