### Author Biography

PAT ROGERS is DeBartolo Chair in the Liberal Arts at the University of South Florida. He is the author of more than 200 articles, and his books include _Grub Street_ (1972), _The Augustan Vision_ (1974), _Literature and Popular Culture in Eighteenth-Century England_ (1985), _The Oxford Illustrated History of English Literature_ (1987), the _Blackwell Companion to the Enlightenment_ (1992), _Johnson_ (1993), _Essays on Pope_ (1993), and _Johnson and Boswell: The Transit of Caledonia(1995). He is the former president of the Johnson Society of Lichfield, and of the British Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies._
