**Michael Waters** has written for _The New Yorker_, _The Atlantic_, _The New York Times_, _Wired_, _Slate_, and _Vox_, among other publications. He was the 2021-2022 New York Public Library Martin Duberman Visiting Scholar in LGBTQ studies and lives in Brooklyn, New York.
