**Rachel Kushner** (born 1968) is the author of _The Flamethrowers_ (2013) and _The Mars Room_ (2018). Her debut novel, _Telex from Cuba_, was a finalist for the 2008 National Book Award and a _New York Times_ bestseller and Notable Book. A collection of her early work, _The Strange Case of Rachel K_, was published by New Directions in 2015. Her fiction has appeared in the _New Yorker_, _Harper's_ and the _Paris Review_.
