**Thomas E. Murray** was a professor in the Department of English at Kansas State University. Among his publications are _The Language of St. Louis, Missouri_, _Apects of American English_, _The Language of Handspinning_, _Dialogue Graffiti in American English_, and articles in _American Speech_, _Names_, _SECOL Review_, _Maledicta_, and other journals.

**Thomas R. Murrell** has a PhD in 20th-century American literature from Ohio State University.
