In celebration of the Tennessee Williams centennial in 2011, The Library of America presents its acclaimed two-volume edition of his plays in a collector's boxed set. Gathering thirty-two works written from the 1930s to the 1980s, this collection contains all the essential dramatic works of the playwright who transformed the American stage. The first volume opens with the rediscovered early plays, _Spring Storm_ and _Not About Nightingales_, and contains such classics as _The Glass Menagerie_, _A Streetcar Named Desire_, _The Rose Tattoo_, and _Cat on a Hot Tin Roof_, as well as a selection of one acts. The second volume includes _Orpheus Descending, Suddenly Last Summer, Sweet Bird of Youth, Period of Adjustment, The Night of the Iguana, The Eccentricities of a Nightingale, Out Cry,_ and _A Lovely Sunday for Creve Coeur_.

### Author Biography

This two-volume edition is edited by Mel Gussow (1933-2005), who was a drama critic, a cultural writer at _The New York Times_, and author of several books including _Edward Albee: A Singular Journey_, and by Kenneth Holditch, professor emeritus at the University of New Orleans, editor since 1989 of the _Tennessee Williams Journal_, and the author of _In Old New Orleans_.
