# Starring the Plaza: Hollywood, Broadway, and High Society Visit the World's Favorite Hotel - Hardcover

by **Patricia Farmer** (Author), **Mitzi Gaynor** (Foreword by)

**A visual celebration of a cultural icon!**

From the day it opened its doors in 1907, the lavish nineteen story French Renaissance building on the southeast corner of Fifth Avenue and Central Park South was simply the grandest hotel in the world. The Plaza's lavish interiors and exteriors have remained sought-after settings for films, TV, shows, and important social events--from Barbra Streisand to The Beatles, anyone who is anyone has stayed there, partied there, and _who-knows-what-else_ there.

In the second edition of _Starring the Plaza_, a labor of love conceived and created by pop-cultural historian Patty Farmer, the hotel shines in a new light. Page after page of moments captured from parties and premieres form a new kind of chronicle of the New York iconic landmark. Featured in quintessential film moments such as the Oak Bar in Hitchcock's _North By Northwest_, the Persian Room in _Sabrina_, and even the grand lobby from _Home Alone 2_, the Plaza truly offers a stunning atmosphere and allure that is unrivaled.

_Starring the Plaza_ is the first ever visual celebration of the Plaza on stage, screen, and in society, and author Patty Farmer has scoured the archives to show it off in all its glory.

### Author Biography

_Patty Farmer_ is a historian, best-selling author, businesswoman, and former model. She's been fascinated with the glamour, magic, and history of New York City's quintessential Plaza Hotel ever since the day her mother introduced her to the ritual of afternoon tea at the hotel's Palm Court when she was just seven years old. She continues her in-depth research uncovering all the secrets and history this mythical, landmark hotel holds.

_Patty_ has followed the entertainment industry as an insider, and archivist all her life. Her work draws upon a lifetime of close friendships and socializing among personalities and celebrities around the world and has spent the last decade writing about some of our most significant cultural institutions. Her books include _The Persian Room Presents,_ about the famed supper club in the Plaza Hotel; two oral histories of entertainment at the legendary Playboy Clubs called _Playboy Swings_ and _Playboy Laughs_; and an illustrated celebration of films and live performances set at the Plaza called _Starring the Plaza_.

In her best-selling book _Playboy Swings_, she chronicles--through hundreds of personal interviews--the careers and personalities of the country's leading jazz artists. Terry Teachout, in a review for the Wall Street Journal, said, "_Playboy Swings_ is a well-researched, fascinatingly detailed new book by Patty Farmer. It goes a long way toward answering the question of how Jazz acquired its cultural cachet."
She makes her home in the Portuguese Algarve.
