### Author Biography

**Gayl Jones** was born in Kentucky in 1949. She attended Connecticut College and Brown University, and has taught at Wellesley College and the University of Michigan. Her landmark books include _Corregidora_, _Eva's Man_, _The Healing_ (a National Book Award finalist and _New York Times_ Notable Book of the Year), _Palmares_ (a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in fiction), and most recently, _The Birdcatcher_ (National Book Award finalist).
