Gordon M. Shepherd is professor of neuroscience at the Yale School of Medicine and former editor in chief of the _Journal of Neuroscience_. His books include _Neurogastronomy: How the Brain Creates Flavor and Why It Matters_ (Columbia, 2012), _Handbook of Brain Microcircuits_ (2010), and _Creating Modern Neuroscience: The Revolutionary 1950s_ (2009).
