### Author Biography

**Carole Boston Weatherford** has written more than fifty books, including the Caldecott Honor recipients _Freedom in Congo Square_; _Voice of Freedom: Fannie Lou Hamer_, _Spirit of the Civil Rights Movement_; and _Moses: When Harriet Tubman Led Her People to Freedom_. She won a Coretta Scott King Author Honor for _Becoming Billie Holiday,_ NAACP Image Awards for _Moses_ and for _Gordon Parks: How the Photographer Captured Black and White America_, the Arnold Adoff Poetry Award for _The Legendary Miss Lena Horne_, and an SCBWI Golden Kite and We Need Diverse Books Walter Award for _Schomburg: The Man Who Built a Library_. Baltimore-born, Weatherford teaches at Fayetteville State University in North Carolina.  
**Kadir Nelson** is the Caldecott Medal-winning artist of _The Undefeated_ and a two-time Caldecott Honor recipient for _Moses: When Harriet Tubman Led Her People to Freedom_ by Carole Boston Weatherford and Henry's _Freedom Box_ by Ellen Levine. Among his numerous other awards are three NAACP Image Awards, two Coretta Scott King Author Awards, and three Coretta Scott King Illustrator Awards.
