### Author Biography

**Kate DiCamillo** is the author of the first five stories starring Mercy Watson. She is also the author of _The Tale of Despereaux,_ which won the Newbery Medal; _Because of Winn-Dixie,_ which received a Newbery Honor; _The Tiger Rising,_ a National Book Award Finalist; _The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane,_ winner of a _Boston Globe-Horn Book_ Award; and the _New York Times_ best-selling picture book _Great Joy_. She lives in Minneapolis.

**Chris Van Dusen** has illustrated all the books in the Mercy Watson series. He is also the author-illustrator of _Down to the Sea with Mr. Magee, A Camping Spree with Mr. Magee,_ and _If I Built a Car._ He lives in Camden, Maine.
