### Author Biography

Ellen Tarlow writes stories for children, including the picture books _Looking for Smile_ and _Becoming Blue_. She has been a teacher and for many years worked as an editor of early childhood classroom materials. In that job, she got to create hundreds of stories for young children. Now, she is excited to work on stories of her own. Ellen lives in the Hudson Valley with her husband, David, a painter.

Lauren Stringer has illustrated many celebrated picture books, including _Deer Dancer_ by Mary Lyn Ray; _The Princess and Her Panther_ by Wendy Orr; _Scarecrow_ and _Snow_, both written by Cynthia Rylant; as well as her own _Winter Is the Warmest Season_, _When Stravinsky Met Nijinsky_, and _Dark Was Done_.
