### Author Biography

Deborah Wiles is the author of the picture book _Freedom Summer_ and the novels: _Love, Ruby Lavender_; _The Aurora County All-Stars_; _Each Little Bird That Sings_, a National Book Award finalist; and _A Long Line of Cakes_. She is also the author of the documentary novels _Countdown_; _Revolution_, a National Book Award Finalist; and _Anthem_. She has vivid memories of ducking and covering under her school desk during air raid drills at the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis.
