### Author Biography

**Kathryn Jackson** wrote hundreds of lively, witty stories for Golden Books, most of which were coauthored with her husband, Byron. _The Saggy Baggy Elephant_ is one of the pair's most famous titles. Golden Books that Kathryn Jackson wrote on her own include _Tawny Scrawny Lion, Nurse Nancy, Pantaloon, Richard Scarry's The Animals' Merry Christmas,_ and _Richard Scarry's A Story a Day: 365 Stories and Rhymes_.

**Martin Provensen** (1916-1987) and his wife, Alice, have illustrated more than 50 books for children, including _An Owl and Three Pussycats_, _The Year at Maple Hill Farm_, and numerous Little Golden Books including _The Color Kittens_ and _Katie the Kitten._ In 1984, they won the Caldecott Medal for _The Glorious Fight_, which they wrote and illustrated together.

**Alice Provensen** and her husband, Martin, have illustrated more than 50 fabulous books for children, including _A Visit to William Blake's Inn_, _Our Animal Friends at Maple Hill Farm_, and numerous Little Golden Books including _The Color Kittens_ and _Katie the Kitten._ They won the Caldecott Medal for _The Glorious Fight_ in 1984. She lives in San Clemente, California.
