### Author Biography

**Lane Smith** has written and illustrated a bunch of stuff, including picture books _There Is A Tribe Of Kids_; _John, Paul, George & Ben_; _Madam President_; and middle-grade novel _Return to Augie Hobble_ . He is the author and illustrator of 2012 Caldecott Honor book _Grandpa Green_, and the _New York Times_ bestseller _It's a Book_, which has been translated into more than 20 languages.

Lane's titles with Jon Scieszka have included the Caldecott Honor-winner _The Stinky Cheese Man_; _The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs_; _Math Curse_; and _Science Verse_. Lane's other high profile titles include _Hooray for Diffendoofer Day!_by Dr. Seuss and Jack Prelutsky;_The Very Persistent Gappers of Frip_ by George Saunders; _Big Plans_ by Bob Shea; and_James and the Giant Peach_ by Roald Dahl. In 1996 Lane served as Conceptual Designer on the Disney film version of_James and the Giant Peach_. Lane also wrote and illustrated the retro, cult favorites, _The Happy Hocky Family_ and _The Happy Hocky Family Moves to the Country_.

Like the Hocky family, he and book designer Molly Leach live in a little town in the country.
