### Author Biography

**D.L. Ashliman**, an emeritus professor at the University of Pittsburgh, taught folklore, mythology, German, and comparative literature at that institution for thirty-three years. He also served as guest professor at the University of Augsburg in Germany. He is the editor of the _Aesop's Fables_ volume in the Barnes and Noble Classics series. His book-length publications include two volumes in the Folklore Handbooks series of Greenwood Press: _Folk and Fairy Tales_ (2004) and _Fairy Lore_ (2005). He authored numerous articles in the four-volume encyclopedia _Folktales and Fairy Tales_ (Greenwood Press, 2016).
