### Author Biography

**Du Bose Heyward** (1885-1940) was the author of several books, including the critically acclaimed novel _Porgy_, which was the basis for Gershwin's _Porgy and Bess_. **Marjorie Flack** (1897-1958) was an author and illustrator of many children's books, including _The Story About Ping_ and _The Boats on the River_, which received a Caldecott Honor in 1947.
