### Author Biography

MAGGIE O'FARRELL was born in Northern Ireland in 1972. Her novels include _Hamnet_ (winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award), _After You'd Gone_, _The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox_, _The Hand That First Held Mine_ (winner of the Costa Novel Award), and _Instructions for a Heatwave_. She has also written a memoir, _I Am, I Am, I Am: Seventeen Brushes with Death_. She lives in Edinburgh.
