### Author Biography

**Karen Hesse** is the author of numerous books for young people, including _Out of the Dust_, winner of the Newbery Medal and the Scott O'Dell Award for Historical Fiction; _The Cats in Krasinksi Square_, illustrated by Wendy Watson; _Letters from Rifka_, winner of the National Jewish Book Award; and _Night Job_, illustrated by G. Brian Karas_._ She was also the recipient of a MacArthur Fellows Grant in 2002. She lives with her husband in Vermont.

**Charlotte Voake** is a Welsh-born author and illustrator of many books for children, including _Ginger_, a Nestlé Smarties Children's Book Prize winner and American Library Association Notable Children's Book; _Ginger Finds a Home_; _Pizza Kittens_, a Nestlé Smarties Children's Book Prize Silver Medal winner; and _Hello Twins_, a _New York Times_ _Book Review_ Best Illustrated Children's Book of the Year. Charlotte Voake lives in England with her family.
