**Denise Kiernan** (she/her) is an American journalist, producer and _New York Times_ bestselling author. She has written several history books, including _We Gather Together_, _The Last_ Castle, and _The Girls of Atomic City._ When not writing, she likes playing tennis, watching soccer, working in her garden, and cooking tasty treats at her home in North Carolina. **Jamey Christoph's** (he/him) illustrations have appeared in _The New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle_, and in several award winning children's books. He has received multiple recognitions from the Society of Illustrators, _Communication Arts_, and _3×3 Magazine_.
