### Author Biography

**Chris Santella** is the author of more than 20 books, including 18 titles in the Fifty Places series. He is a regular contributor to the _Washington Post_, the _New York Times_, _Trout_, and _Gray's Sporting Journal_, and resides in Portland, Oregon. When he's not writing, Santella can often be found swinging flies for steelhead on rivers around the Pacific Northwest or strumming guitar in his band, Catch & Release. **DC Helmuth** is a travel writer who also covers the outdoors, millennial cultural trends, and modern spirituality. Her first book, _How to Suffer Outside: A Beginner's Guide to Hiking and Backpacking,_ won the National Outdoor Book Award for Best Instructional. Her other works have been featured on NPR, named a Longreads Editor's Pick, and nominated for the Goodreads Choice Awards. When she's not writing, she's backpacking, gardening, or traveling the world. She was born and raised in Northern California.
