But when they touch them, they burn beyond recognition so the student teaches them how to make a vase using lava from a lava pit, fills it with water from a canteen, and they all sit back to enjoy the flower arrangement until help arrives and rescues the student.

John Hare is a freelance illustrator and graphic designer. His first book for children, _Field Trip to the Moon,_ was a Golden Duck Notable Picture Book and an ALA Notable Picture Book. Its companion books are _Field Trip to the Ocean Deep_, also a Golden Duck Notable Picture Book, and _Field Trip to Volcano Island_, a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection.
