### Author Biography

**Russell James** grew up on Long Island, New York and spent too much time watching _Chiller, Kolchak: The Night Stalker_, and _The Twilight Zone_, despite his parents' warnings. Bookshelves full of Stephen King and Edgar Allan Poe didn't make things better. He graduated from Cornell University and the University of Central Florida.

After a tour flying helicopters with the US Army and a career in technical writing, he now spins twisted tales best read in daylight. He has written over a dozen paranormal thrillers including _The Portal_ and _The Playing Card Killer_. His successful Grant Coleman sci-fi series includes _Cavern of the Damned_, _Monsters in the Clouds_, and _Curse of the_ _Viper King_. He follows the monster-hunting adventures of _Park Service_ _Ranger Kathy West_ in _Claws and Dragons of Kilauea_. He has four short story collections: _Tales from Beyond_, _Outer Rim_, _Forever Out of Time_, and _Deeper into Darkness_.

His wife reads what he writes, rolls her eyes, and says, "There is something seriously wrong with you." They live in Florida with two untrainable cats.
